In a joint appeal, 368 civil society organizations and experts from 107 countries have called on the UN Human Rights Council to adopt a strong resolution addressing the damaging effects of corruption on human rights. The open letter, submitted ahead of the Council’s 59th session, emphasizes that corruption fuels systemic human rights violations by diverting resources and weakening accountability, disproportionately harming marginalized communities. It urges states to adopt a human rights-based approach to anti-corruption efforts, in line with international obligations and the UN Convention against Corruption. This approach not only targets legal breaches but also promotes justice, equity, and sustainable development.
