Showcasing investigations by Opening Extractives partners, we will show how using open company data and investigative tools can impact the transparency and improve open governance.

What Will be Covered?

What sources are available, and how can they be used to get deeper into the story?

Show the diversity of what can be done using ownership data.

Showcase examples of how data from three continents have been used in investigations and what impact it had.

Policy Alert in Nigeria in partnership with the Tax Justice Network Africa looked into the beneficial owners of four oil and gas companies and their involvement in oil-for-product swaps. These swaps are complex barter agreements where oil companies and private traders swap crude oil for refined petroleum products, rather than for money. Policy Alert had some wins and is paving the way for improved transparency, which will be revealed on 9 May.
